Acupuncture - Traditional Chinese Medicine
Many health practitioners offer acupucture services but only a few are properly trained in the systems and methods using the knowledge and experience of over 2000 years of Chinese tradition in healing, There will nearly always be an effect from placing a needle under the skin, however only limited results can be expected unless the practitioner has a sound understanding of the principles of chinese medicine and knowledge of the energy systems that run along the meridians in the body. At Qimax our acupuncturists are thoroughly trained in the Chinese system of acupuncture which means they can treat a wide variety of conditions using various techniques (see below for examples of conditions that have shown to respond well to acupuncture). There is much research that supports the efficacy of acupuncture for many conditions. The basis of acupuncture is to bring the body into balance by restoring the flow of Qi (pronounced Chee). Qi is the vital energy that flows though channels in the body known as meridians. Disruption to the smooth flow of Qi may cause disease. Various factors may effect the ability of the Qi to flow harmoniously through the body, among them climate effects such as heat, cold, damp, wind and injury as well as emotional factors such as anger, frusration, worry, fear or sadness. The flow of Qi may be corrected by the insertion of fine, disposable, sterile needles into acupuncture points . There are several hundred of these points all over the body and they all have different effects when treated. Not only is the location of the correct points important, so is the techniques of stimulating the different points for various conditions. Other methods such as moxa ( a heated herb), cupping, magnets, acupressure and laser may also be used. Needles are not necessary for treatment, other effective techniques can be used for those who are nervous of needles and for children. Acupuncture is beneficial for acute and chronic disorders and is also used for general wellness and relaxation. Cosmetic Acupuncture
